What is the RoadDrive 45 electrification kit, and what types of bikes can it convert?
The RoadDrive 45 is a lightweight, high-performance electrification kit designed to transform your traditional bike into an e-bike. This rear-wheel motor is specially designed for hybrid bikes, city bikes, road bikes, and gravel bikes. Perfect for cyclists looking for discreet yet effective assistance, it integrates seamlessly with your bike without compromising its original agility.
Is the kit compatible with my wheel size (20, 24, 26, 27.5, 700C)?
Yes. The RoadDrive 45 comes in five wheel sizes with a solid / quick-release axle: 20″, 24″, 26″, 27.5″ (650B) and 28″ (700C), and in 700C (28″/29″) for road and gravel frames with a 12 × 142 mm thru-axle. You pick the size in the product selector: the motorised rear wheel is delivered built, you just refit your cassette and tyre.
Three points then decide compatibility: a 7 to 11-speed derailleur cassette, a 135 mm rear spacing (solid / quick-release axle) or 142 mm with a 12 mm thru-axle (dedicated version), and dropouts at least 10 mm wide for the solid axle version. This setup covers most road, gravel, hybrid, city and mountain bikes with standard gears.
Rear hub motor, front hub motor or mid-drive: which one should I choose?
Rear hub motor (RoadDrive 45): the lightest (2 kg) and most discreet option. It drives the bike through the driven wheel, with a torque sensor that matches assistance to your effort. Ideal for road, gravel, hybrid and city bikes on flat to rolling terrain, and for carbon frames, which a mid-drive cannot equip. It needs a 7 to 11-speed cassette and 135 mm spacing (or 142 mm with a thru-axle).
Front hub motor: easy to fit, but the lightly loaded front wheel spins on climbs and wet ground and the steering gets heavier. We don’t offer it.
Mid-drive motor (UrbanExplorer Z8, PowerTrail Z8): the motor drives the chain and uses the bike’s gears, hence much higher torque (90 Nm in 36 V, 120 Nm in 48 V) for mountains, cargo bikes, heavy loads and MTBs with a Boost 148 mm thru-axle. Trade-offs: more weight (4.6 kg), a more technical bottom-bracket installation, and slightly faster chain wear.

How long can I expect the RoadDrive 45's battery to last?

The RoadDrive 45 uses a smart torque sensor that precisely analyzes your pedaling effort to adjust the electric assist in real time. With its 5 customizable assist levels and a walking mode at 5 km/h, you have complete control over the intensity of the motor’s assistance. The motor delivers 40 Nm of torque and a maximum power output of 350W, providing a natural, smooth, and progressive ride—even on climbs. What are the incompatibilities I should be aware of before buying the RoadDrive 45?
The RoadDrive 45 is not compatible with:
– Derailleur-free drivetrains, such as Nexus or Rohloff (for these bikes, the UrbanExplorer Z2 and PowerTrail Z8 pedal-assist motors are recommended)
– Bicycles equipped with drum brakes

How can I manage and optimize the battery life of the RoadDrive 45?
To maximize the lifespan of your lithium-ion battery, we recommend a few simple practices: avoid completely discharging it on a regular basis, store it in a moderate-temperature environment (10–20°C) when not in use, and recharge it after each significant use. The RoadDrive 45’s battery is equipped with protection against overvoltage, overcharging, and short circuits, ensuring optimal safety. Its built-in USB port also allows you to charge your mobile devices on the go.
How long does a hub motor last?
The RoadDrive 45 motor is brushless: no brushes, so no electrical wear part. The only mechanical parts under load are the hub bearings and the freehub body, the same as on a regular wheel. In normal use a hub motor of this type outlasts a battery by a wide margin, i.e. several tens of thousands of kilometres, and it is covered by a 2-year warranty.
To make it last: avoid high-pressure water jets on the hub (IP54 rating), check the axle and torque-arm tightness after the first rides, and have the bearings checked at your bike’s regular service. The motor stays repairable: bearings and freehub can be replaced in a workshop.
What is the maximum assisted speed, and is it adjustable?
In accordance with the European standard EN 15194 for electric-assist bicycles (e-bikes), the RoadDrive 45 provides assistance up to 25 km/h. This limit can be adjusted via a password-protected setting on the display, but please note: changing this limit will make your bike non-compliant with the law for use on public roads and may void your warranty. The maximum speed reached will also depend on your pedaling cadence, the gear ratio used, and your bike’s configuration.
What warranty is included with the RoadDrive 45 kit?
The RoadDrive 45 electrification kit comes with a 2-year warranty covering any manufacturing defects that occur under normal use in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations. This warranty applies to all components of the kit: the wheel motor, battery, display, and included accessories. To maintain your warranty, be sure to comply with the legal speed limits for assisted cycling (25 km/h) and follow the basic maintenance instructions.
