What are the advantages of this kit over other Bafang BBS-type pedal motors?

The kit with the TSDZ8 motor offers several distinct advantages over the Bafang BBS02. First of all, the TSDZ8 is designed to offer significantly more torque, with 110Nm compared to the BBS02’s 80Nm, which translates into better responsiveness and performance, particularly when climbing or on difficult terrain.

What’s more, the TSDZ8 incorporates a high-precision torque sensor that adjusts assistance more finely and progressively according to the force exerted on the pedals. This feature ensures a more natural and intuitive driving experience than with the BBS02, which relies more on a rotation sensor to regulate assistance.

Is the electrification kit easy or complicated to assemble?

The TSDZ8 motor kit has been designed to simplify installation, similar to the TSDZ2(see our tutorial here), on a wide range of bicycles with standard bottom brackets (BSA or JIS). However, depending on the specifics of your frame and the equipment already on your bike, some adaptations may be necessary. We invite you to consult our compatibility manual available here 👍

For those who feel less at ease with bike mechanics, it’s a good idea to call in a specialist. If you opt to buy a kit via Syklo, ask us for a list of partner workshops ready to help you in this process.

Why a torque sensor motor?

The torque sensor analyzes the pressure applied by the rider on the pedals and adapts the electric assistance provided in real time. This type of sensor, renowned for its finesse, offers a more natural and efficient response than cadence or motion sensors(found in kits such as the Bafang BBS). Sensor accuracy may vary according to design and production, but the TSDZ8 kit is renowned for its high precision. Take care not to exert any pressure on the pedals during initial start-up (1 to 2 seconds) to ensure correct sensor calibration.

How heavy is the battery and how long does it last before needing to be recharged?

Battery weight varies according to the capacity selected, with the 840Wh model weighing in at 4.1 kg. As for range, this is influenced not only by battery capacity, but also by the level of assistance chosen during your rides; it usually oscillates between 30 and over 100 km per recharge. The average consumption of an electrically-assisted bicycle (EAB) is estimated at around 7Wh/km. However, thanks to the torque sensor, your energy consumption is optimized, resulting in significant savings, easily reducing your energy consumption by 20% compared to a Bafang BBS02, for example.

How fast can my TSDZ8 electrified bike go?

The top speed achievable with the kit is around 45 km/h. However, depending on your bike’s rear cassette, the type of bike (mountain bike, mountain bike, cargo bike, gravel bike) and the size of the chainring mounted on the TSDZ8, you may be able to reach higher speeds…

What accessories are included with the conversion kit and what tools do I need to assemble my bottom bracket motor kit?

The TSDZ8 kit comes with the motor, battery, charger and display of your choice. You’ll also find all the components you need to assemble your kit: screws, cables, cranks, clamps and a special wrench for the main nut. However, to ensure proper assembly, you will need the following additional tools:

Allen key sets (2.5 mm / 3 mm / 4 mm / 5 mm / 6 mm),
Phillips and flathead screwdrivers,
Torque wrench (optional),
Crank puller (available from any bike/sports store),
Bottom bracket disassembly wrench for your model (available from any bike/sports store),
Cutting pliers,
Net brake (available from DIY stores),
A few extra clamps

Is my bike's electric conversion reversible? Can I remove the kit if necessary?

Yes, the electric conversion of your bike is reversible and the kit can be removed if necessary to go on another bike. That’s the beauty of investing in a kit that can easily grow with your needs.

What is the warranty on the conversion kit?

Our bicycle electrification kit is guaranteed for 24 months from the date of purchase, provided it is used in accordance with the legal power and speed regulations. To prolong the life of your kit and avoid any problems, we recommend that you follow the recommended operating instructions, such as storing it away from humidity, using it at temperatures between -10°C and 40°C, charging the battery regularly, and avoiding use in extreme conditions. Is the battery removable and can it be recharged off the bike?

Yes, the battery is removable and can be recharged away from the bike. We recommend using the charger supplied with the kit to ensure optimum charging. To prolong the life of your battery, charge it after each use and store it at a temperature between 10 and 20°C. Avoid letting the battery discharge completely before recharging, as this can damage the cells. Remember to recharge your battery at least once a month, and never store it flat.

Are there any restrictions on the use of the conversion kit in terms of weight or type of terrain?

The electric motor kit is designed to be used with a maximum load of 150 kg on flat ground, however it is important to check that your bike can support such a load, and to check the bike manufacturer’s specifications for expected weight limits (usually between 100 and 150 kg). The kit can be used on most terrains, but care must be taken on very steep or uneven ground to avoid overheating the motor and battery.

Do you deliver within 24 hours?

Compatibilité moteur TSDZ2 / TSDZ8

Il y a 3 facteurs principaux pour déterminer si le moteur pédalier TSDZ2 ou TSDZ8 s’adapte à votre vélo actuel. Le diamètre intérieur du pédalier, la largeur et l’épaisseur de la paroi.

Le moteur est compatible avec les boîtiers de pédalier qui ont un diamètre intérieur de 33,5 à 35 mm, une largeur de 68 à 73 mm et une épaisseur de paroi inférieure (ou un dégagement inférieur) à 8 mm pour le TSDZ2 et 10mm pour le TSDZ8. Ce type de pédalier est généralement appelé BSA ou JIS.

TSDZ2 / TSDZ8 motor compatibility

There are 3 main factors to determine whether the TSDZ2 or TSDZ8 crankset motor will fit your current bike. Internal diameter of crankset, width and wall thickness.

The motor is compatible with bottom brackets with an internal diameter of 33.5 to 35 mm, a width of 68 to 73 mm and a wall thickness (or clearance) of less than 8 mm for the TSDZ2 and 10 mm for the TSDZ8. This type of crankset is generally referred to as BSA or JIS.

We also offer an adapter for the following bottom brackets Pressfit 41mm (BB92 or BB86).
